Who Am I? Who is Dr. Patricia Hinton Walker?
As an experienced educator and member of the MentorCoach Training Team, Pat Hinton Walker, PhD brings her love of teaching to a successful coaching practice. Pat’s clients are individuals and groups who are interested in advancing in their business and profession, sometimes searching for more meaning, purpose, and their ‘calling’. She frequently coaches clients who are interested in promotions or executive positions, coaching them through the discovery phase of determining the ‘right fit’ for a new role, then sharpening the resume, the application and interview process. Once the position is offered, and it almost always is, Pat coaches clients through negotiations and on-boarding into the new role!
Pat’s unique coaching approach reflects her diverse background and experience. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing, and a Master’s and PhD with a focus on higher education administration and adult education. She currently serves in the role of Vice President for Policy and Strategic Initiatives at a major university. Her executive experience in health care delivery settings and academic institutions along with her successful coaching and consulting business lend a wealth of experience that is so valuable to her clients and to her coaching students.
Pat attended the MentorCoach training program, achieved her certification as Certified Mentor Coach (CMC) and has her Professional Coaching Certification (PCC) from the International Coach Foundation (ICF). She is in the process of achieving her goal of becoming a Master Certified Coach. Additionally, she is certified to administer and interpret the Myers Briggs Type Inventory (MBTI) and Emotional Intelligence Profile (EIP) and she had additional training on both the MBTI and EIQ in coaching. These two assessments support a significant part of Pat’s coaching practice.
Hinton Walker Associates was founded by Pat in the early 1980’s. Since then, through an extension of that business into Stepping Stones Coaching and Consulting, she provides coaching and consultation nationally and internationally in organizational and business development, the application of innovations in Health Information Technology (IT) in both practice and education, cost and quality outcomes of community-based care, and team buildling (including TeamSTEPPS for patient safety). She serves as a consultant nationally in both rural and large healthcare settings from the deep south to Canada, including a long term consultation for the National Institutes of Health Clinical Center. She has been (and continues to be) invited to provide keynote presentations, workshops, coaching and consultation on strategies for change related to policy changes and innovation to health care and education organizations in the U.S. Additionally, she has brought her expertise in these areas to Taiwan, Canada, Thailand, Hong Kong, Japan, United Kingdom, Belgium, Sweden, Finland, Poland, and Saudia Arabia.
An avid writer, Pat is widely published in inter-disciplinary and nursing publications. She has edited four books and recently has brought her healthcare work and coaching together in the context of policy changes in health care and education. Some of her latest presentations and emerging publications highlight the value of health/wellness coaching linked with health IT data from Electronic Healht Records and Personal Health Records to improve health of individuals and families.
Pat has a love for people and enjoys opportunities to teach, coach and mentor individuals/groups in addition to her long-standing consultation practice in both health care and health care organizations. She serves as a leader on national boards and expert panels focused on policy, healthcare and education and is always willing to leverage her broad national network for colleagues and students.
She is married, and she and her husband John live in the national capitol region in the United States. With children grown and a growing number of grandchildren, Pat and John carefully plan special time with family around busy careers.

L. Belsten, MCC :
"I have had an opportunity to get to know Pat as an excellent coach, one with a solid understanding of core and advanced coaching techniques, knowledge and skills.
She is an astute and deep listener, hearing things that are said, as well as unsaid! She asks smart questions designed to stimulate new innovative and critical thinking. She has a supportive and encouraging style and is able to quickly establish rapport with her clients.
I give Pat my highest recommendation at the PCC designation and believe her to be already coaching at the MCC level."
